Creating more home ownership and rental options in Ward 3
Welland is facing a housing crisis. Solutions to this crisis and housing shortage require support from all levels of government, and private and public partnership. I am committed to working with all parties to explore creative solutions that fit the needs of our community.
As a community, we need homes that can accommodate different types of households and needs. Homes built for single individuals, multi-person, and multi-generational families. We need housing options that are suited to people with disabilities and people with limited mobility who use assistive devices (wheelchairs, walkers, lifts, etc.). We also need to provide housing that accommodates co-housing options. Achieving changes in our housing options means working with banks and credit unions, developers, builders, the provincial and federal governments and most importantly with local residents.
Let’s work together to advocate for:
- Fast-tracking the designation of surplus city properties for affordable housing to create units for single seniors and people with disabilities.
- Innovative pilots for home-sharing
- Safe and clean co-housing and second units
